IHH Show 37: SELF-ACTUALIZATION, DISTRACTING HEALTH NEWSBYTES

We discuss the principles of self-actualization as developed by Abraham Maslow. Doctor Rodier shares his feeling that those who attain this level of awareness experience a sense of purpose and direction and the ability to manifest their true desires expediently in a fulfilling way. In his most recent blog, he refers to this work as Maslow’s Medicine, a point of view which presents the hermetic idea that we are, in fact, all one consciousness. So, in a sense, we can look at all of our heroes, indeed, all of history, as the story of ourselves. So, in a sense, nothing is beyond us. Further, he gives two examples of patients who experienced the consequences of Dr. Rodier’s own commitment to self-actualization in his practice in which he is not tied down to meaningless and endless insurance forms and can focus on spiritual and psychological factors, handling the totality of his patients, while helping them solve often concrete physical health problems. In this manner, he can follow the drum, as Thoreau says, the drum that guides him in his quest for self-actualization. In the course of the conversation, he quotes from a book by Harry Dent called Zero Hour, where Dent mentions that in the future employees will fire their supervisiors- and work will proceed much more co-operatively under the management of self-actualized employees Sometimes research articles are so focused that they leave out the big picture. We focus on the Ebola or the West Nile Virus- something very dangerous- but not necessarily something that effects many people in the United States but really neglect to deal with the realities that distort the effectiveness of the health care system in America. We focus on these 30-second 5:00 newsbytes while forgetting or not even realizing that 40,000 people a year are dying of the common flue, our children’s bodies are racked with obesity and the potentially dangerous health consequences and that thousands of people are dying of stress related disorders. We further discuss the illness caused measles, which cropped up recently with the suspicion that there was some kind of new form of measles, a story that has somehow faded from current new consciousness. In this program, we discuss an article, published in the New York Times, focusing on a report about to new studies, published in Science and Science Immunology that “…found that even when patients recover, [measles] can inflict lasting harm on their immune systems.” The Washington Post, also reporting on these studies, said that measles can destroy “up to half of the existing antibodies that protect against other viruses and bacteria.” In this program, we go much further in our discussion about these reports and how to combat the dangers caused by a measles outbreak- after having succumbed to this condition. We also discuss some of the problems with the MMR vaccine, which includes three different vaccines, which is problematical. One of the most intense critics of that was based on the work of Dr. Wakefield, who received great condemnation for his initial results but ultimately was vindicated. We go into more of the history of problems with the MMR, which also, like the flu vaccine, contains the controversial compound thimerosal, which contains mercury.
