In this Integrative Hermetic Health Show, we take a careful, focused look at one of the major changes in the consumer food industry., Was Milk ever the perfect food? It certainly used to be. In fact, right now Dean Foods, America’s largest milk producer is filing for bankruptcy, according to CNN business news, which says, “The 94-year-old company has struggled in recent years because Americans are drinking less cows milk. 2019 has been particularly brutal: the company’s sales tumbled 7% in the first half of the year, and profit fell 14%. Dean Foods (DF) stock has lost 80% this year.” One of milk’s most conspicuous competitors is Oatly, a Swedish alternative milk product made from oats. Its launch in the United States in 2016 saw the company’s revenue grow from 1.5 million to more than $15 million between 2017 to 2018. And it is far from the only product. People unfamiliar with this dairy-less milk revolution will be overwhelmed when they look at the shelves lined with alternative milk products- soy, rice, almonds, coconut, etc. Responding to the demise of the interest in milk, which have been almost purely generated by consumer demand, Doctor Rodier brought up the recent 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in the former Czechoslovakia, This was a bloodless revolution where people decided to stop consuming, to quit their jobs, to sell their small businesses and forced the communist leader to abdicate. For many years, Cow’s milk has been the queen of the Milk industry, although there were a few up and coming competitors. But now there is a full scale revolution and the queen seems to be thinking of abdicating her supreme role. Consumers have changed their mind- and the reality of milk’s popularity with consumers is changing- without government intervention or the weight of a government supported oligopoly crushing the opposition, In our program, we expose not only the ways, milk’s value for health- particularly in respect of providing calcium for healthy bones- has been disproven by science- but also the multiple dangers for the consumer that much milk contains- like traces of pesticides, residual antibiotics originally delivered to cows, the problems with feeding humans bovine growth hormone, obviously derived from another species- as well as the fact that lactose is a form of sugar and those effects need to calculated as well. The consumer is now controlling much of the supply and demand for milk. The other factor besides Americans who choose alternative milk products for a variety of health and aesthetic reasons is based on actual lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is a major condition affecting American citizens coming from non-European cultures whose demographics are now more significant for consumer consumption in America. In this show, we also analyze the value of various alternatives to cow’s milk: Almond milk, soy milk, rice milk, coconut milk. These products all have their own special nutrients and, for some, their pluses and minuses.
